چکیده

Large bedforms (dunes) are present in many shallow-water environments. Knowledge of their dimensions and dynamics is required for river coastal management. In tidal rivers estuaries, the interaction among hydrodynamics (which results from action flows), sediment transport bedform shape size complex. study, distribution morphology Weser Estuary, Germany, were investigated. Bedforms identified bathymetric data monthly multibeam echosounder surveys along navigation channel during years 2009 to 2013. Their characterized. most channel, except at position estuarine turbidity maximum where dredging carried out. Average length varied between 20 60 m height 0.3 1.6 m. Bedform asymmetry spatially temporally estuary. times high discharge, generally more ebb-asymmetric than low discharge. The predominantly two-dimensional low-angle dunes with steepest slope situated near crest. A significant proportion possessed a steep face (portion lee side steeper 15°). This implies that they likely create flow separation turbulent wake, strong potential induce roughness. However, important variations area density noted, both estuary as function phase (ebb or flood) seasonal variation have wide implications terms understanding modelling estuaries.

Study of trace metals during estuarine mixing of Jarahi River water with the Musa Estuary water

Flocculation of metals is one of the most important estuarine processes that occur due to the mixing of seawater and river water and colloidal metals undergo this process come in the form of flocculants. Due to the important role of flocculation process in producing suitable food sources for aquatic organisms and reducing the amount of input pollution into aquatic environments, the present stud...

Alcaligenes aquatilis sp. nov., a novel bacterium from sediments of the Weser Estuary, Germany, and a salt marsh on Shem Creek in Charleston Harbor, USA.

Four nitrite-dissimilating strains, isolated from Weser Estuary sediments, were investigated using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that these strains belong to the 'Betaproteobacteria' and are related to the genus Alcaligenes. The highest level of sequence similarity (100 %) was found with strain M3A (=ATCC 700596), a dimethyl su...

Nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide transformations in sediments along a salinity gradient in the Weser Estuary

The dynamics of the nitrogen intermediates N2O and NO2 in estuarine sediments were studied along a salinity gradient in the eutrophied Weser Estuary (Germany) using microsensors for N2O, NO2, NOx, and O2. During dark incubations in the laboratory of sediment samples from a freshwater site, a brackish water site with fluctuating salinity, and a marine site, the effects of environmental changes i...

Regional scale hydrology: II. Application of the VIC-2L model to the Weser River, Germany

This paper describes the application of a grid network version of the twolayer Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC-2L) macroscale hydrological model. The VIC-2L model is implemented on a rotated grid, which is compatible with the weather forecast and climate model REMO (Regional Model), a joint project of the German Weather Service (DWD), GKSS Research Centre and the Max-PlanckInstitute for Met...

Bedforms and Mine Burial

The generation and migration of bedforms (eg, ripples, megaripples and sand bars) on sandy bottoms in the nearshore (0-8 m water depths) provides a mechanism for objects on the seafloor to become buried. As a bedform migrates past a mine, the mine will fall to the low point of the bedform trough before subsequently being buried by the passage of the following bedform crest. The statistics of mi...
